Definite Syllogism - Positive Two Statements:
Illustration:: In the question below, two statements are given followed by Conclusions numbered I and II. The candidate has to assume all the statements to be true even if they seem to be at variance from the commonly known facts and then decide which of the given two Conclusions logically follows from the information given in the statements and mark the option best suited.
Statement : - I. Some grass are green.
II. Some green are sky.
Conclusion : - I. Some grass are sky.
II. Some green are grass.
A. Only Conclusion I follows B. Only Conclusion II follows C. Either Conclusion I or II follows
D. Neither Conclusion I nor II follows E. Both Conclusions I and II follow
Answer : B
Solution:- To solve these type of questions we will show the relations between the objects using a venn diagram. As in the first statement it is given that some grass is green. It means all grasses are not green so it is shown by an intersecting circles. Similarly the second statement can also be shown by an intersecting circle.
Conclusion I that is Some grass are sky s definitely wrong as grass and sky do not have any relation with one another. From the diagram it is clear that there is no area which is common in for the circle representing Grass and Sky.
Conclusion II that is Some green are grass, is definitely true as The circle representing Grass and Green are in partial intersection means some green is grass. So it is true.
Hence option B that is only Conclusion II follows is true.

Statement : - I. All pen are ink
II. All ink are black
Conclusion : - I. Some ink are pen.
II. Some black are ink.
A. Only Conclusion I follows B. Only Conclusion II follows C. Either Conclusion I or II follows
D. Neither Conclusion I nor II follows E. Both Conclusions I and II follow
Answer : E
Solution:- To solve these type of questions we will show the relations between the objects using a Venn Diagram. As in the first statement it is given that all pen are ink. It is shown by an overlaping circles. and the circle representing pen is contained in the circle representing ink. Similarly the second statement can also be shown by an overlaping circle, and the circle representing ink is contained in the circle representing black. The diagram is shown below
Conclusion I that is Some ink are pen is definitely true as circle representing pen is inside the circle representing ink but there is some area of circle representing ink is outside the circle representing pen.So it is true.
Conclusion II that is Some black are ink, is definitely true as the circle representing ink is inside the circle representing black. but there is some area of circle representing black which is outside the circle representing ink. So it is true.
Hence option E that is Both Conclusions I and II follow is true.
